Retro love for the Air Jordan IV
The Air Jordan 4 was re-introduced to the public as a retro in 1999. The retro release of the Air Jordan IV was an immediate success. Most pairs of the retro Air Jordan IV sold out in a matter of minutes. Two color sets were available: white/black and black/cement. Nike followed the success of the retro Air Jordan IV with their first Retro+ model. Fans had mixed feelings about the Nike Air IV Retro+.
Three new releases of the retro Air Jordan IV
Nike continued to release retro versions of the Air Jordan IV in 2004, 2005 and 2006. 2004 introduced new Retro+ colors in White/Green and Cool Grey. Many other retro Air Jordans were released in Cool Grey following the success of the Cool Grey Air Jordan IV.
Air Jordan IV UNDFTD
In 2005, an exclusive UNDFTD version of the Air Jordan IV was created. Only 72 pairs of this version of the sneakers were made. Some were auctioned off between US$1500.00 to US$2600.00 while others were won at raffles. The raffle tickets were attached to t-shirts available from UNDFTD (Los Angeles), UNDFTD (Santa Monica), Real Mad Hectic (Tokyo), Union (NYC), and Foot Patrol (London) and entered the buyer into the raffle with a 1 in 50 chance of winning a pair. The inspiration for the Air Jordan IV UNDFTD was the MA-1 Flight Jacket.
Air Jordan IV Laser
An Air Jordan IV Laser package was released with matching t-shirt and hat that retailed for approximately US$200.00. The Air Jordan IV was laser etched using the same technology that was used on the Air Jordan XX (20). Some versions of the Air Jordan IV Laser were sold exclusively online, including the White/Varsity Red-Black Laser IV.
Air Jordan Mars IV
In 2006, Nike continued to release different variations of the Air Jordan IV’s. One of the fan favorites were the “Mars Blackmons”. The Mars Blackmon Air Jordan IV’s featured a small Mars Blackmon icon and is also known as the Mars IV’s. Other releases include the “military Blues” as well the $500 “Thunder and Lightning package.
