Air Jordan XX2 – Inspired by the F-22 Raptor
The Air Jordan XXII (XX2 or 22) was inspired by the F-22 Raptor Fighter Aircraft. Since the F-22 Raptor is one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world, the Air Jordan XX22 used some of the most advanced shoe designs in the world. The sharp maneuverability of the F-22 inspired the upper while zig-zag stitching was used to mimic the F-22’s stealthy style. Similar to the F-22, the Air Jordan XX22 had air vents which provided an escape for heat.
Titanium
The Air Jordan XXII features a variable speed lacing system coupled with titanium lace loops and a durable titanium lace lock. The carbon fiber shank plate used by many previous Air Jordan models to provide protection was made out of titanium which is lighter and strong. It was also a weird coincidence that the atomic number for titanium (Ti) is 22.
The Return of IPS Cushioning
The IPS (Independent Podular Suspension) cushioning, which was used on the Air Jordan XXI was re-used on the Air Jordan XX2. This time, however the IPS cushioning was visible. The IPS on the Air Jordan XXII was color coded and a choice was given a choice between the double stacked Zoom Air pod or a shock-absorbing encapsulated air.
Special Edition versions
Two special edition version of the Air Jordan XX2 sneakers were released. The first SE edition was released on Michael Jordan’s birthday (February 17). This version featured an authentic Jordan Brand basketball leather. The second edition was the Omega model, part of the Alpha-Omega package. This model featured a laser-etched image of Jordan after he won his sixth NBA championship in 1998.
The Best Fit and Protection
The Air Jordan XXII uses several features to provide the athlete the best fit and protection. The XXII provides the best ankle support of any Air Jordan model to date. Team Jordan players such as Rip Hamilton and Ray Allen wore the Air Jordan XX2 on several occasions.Air Jordan XXII In The Media
