Unstoppable Michael Jordan
The Air Jordan VII was released in late 1991. During this period, Michael Jordan was an international star. Michael won his second straight NBA championship and collected an Olympic gold medal as a member of the Original Dream Team in Barcelona.
Featuring Huarache Technology
The Nike Air Jordan VII’s were remarkably similar to the Air Jordan VI. The major difference was that the VII’s used Nike’s Huarache technology to create a performance-driven sneaker. Along with the Huarache Technology, other changes brought to the Air Jordan VII were the removing of the visible air sole and no Nike Air symbols.
Inspiration For the Air Jordan VII
All the lines on the Air Jordan VII were inspired by Western African tribal patterns, which were on a poster that Tinker Hatfield bought in Portland. The Air Jordan VII also featured a very comfortable form-fitting neoprene sock liner.
Olympic Air Jordan VII’s
When Michael Jordan went to the Olympics as a member of the Dream Team, Nike released a special Olympic color variation of the Air Jordan VII. This model featured Michael Jordan’s Olympic jersey number, which was number 9. The fact that the number 9 was used instead of the traditional 23 helped create a huge buzz around the Olympic Air Jordan VII.
Hare Jordan
The publicity for the Air Jordan VII featured the cartoon character Bugs Bunny. This caused many fans to know the Air Jordan VII’s as Hares and the sneakers are often called Hare Jordans. The commercials featured Michael Jordan with the real Air Jordan VII while Bugs Bunny was wearing a cartoon version of the Air Jordan VII.
Everybody’s a critic
The Air Jordan VII was widely criticized by everybody. Some critics loved it while other hated it. Many thought that it was a step backwards in the design and evolution of the Air Jordans. Others thought that it was a beautiful shoe. It’s very hard to find another pair of Air Jordans, other than the Air Jordan XV (15) that caused such a reaction from the fans. Five color variations of the Air Jordan VII were available when it was originally released.Air Jordan VII In The Media
