The Air Jordan Spizikes were created to honor Spike Lee‘s character Mars Blackmon. Most people agree that the most memorable Air Jordan commercials revolve around Mars Blackmon. As a tribute to Mars Blackmon, the Air Jordan Spizike was released in October, 2006.

The Air Jordan Spizike is A combination of six different Air Jordans. The Air Jordans that were used to create the Air Jordan Spizike include:

Jordan III – sole, midsole, and “Spike”/elephant print
Jordan IV – “wings” on the sides of the shoes that hold lace loops
Jordan V – main silhouette of the shoes, netting on the side, and lace locks
Jordan VI – Tongue
Jordan IX – Pull Tab and the rising sun logo)
Jordan XX – Laser on the inside liner

The Retro Frankenstein

The Air Jordan Spizikes were originally nicknamed the retro Frankenstein. The official name is written Spiz’ike, which in itself was a hybrid: Spike in the first half and Mike in the second half of the name. The Air Jordan Spizikes are one of the most polarizing Air Jordans sneakers released. You either hated or loved the Air Spizikes. There was no in-between. Even with such strong feelings, sales of the Air Jordan Spizikes were pretty good, causing Jordan Brand to produce more colorways.
